The Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Saint Dumitru Stăniloae” in Iași organized the sixth edition of the national student scientific communications session, titled “Contemporary Trends in Sacred Art.” The program featured 34 scientific presentations. Their subjects included religious painting, iconography, decorative art, and the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage.

These areas approach art from different angles. Iconography concerns the study of images and their content, while decorative art focuses on artistic design and ornament. Conservation and restoration are related but distinct forms of care: conservation aims to maintain an object’s condition, while restoration involves work to recover or repair it. Together, the listed subjects encompass both the study of artistic forms and the care of cultural objects.

The event’s title identifies it as a student scientific session, and its national designation describes the scope stated for the gathering. The Iași faculty was its organizer. With 34 presentations across several connected fields, the session brought attention to a range of questions involving sacred art and cultural heritage, from religious painting to the preservation and restoration of heritage objects.
